My career as a former State Representative and Member of the Michigan House of Representatives has been marked by a deep commitment to public service and a drive to promote policies that spur growth. Representing the 24th District, including Harrison Township, Clinton Township, and Macomb Township, I have been a proud voice for the residents of Macomb County, Michigan, where I have lived my entire life.
I've always been deeply invested in the welfare of my constituents and the greater Michigan community. My tenure as a pragmatic and effective lawmaker has brought about substantial, positive changes, contributing to the state's economic development.
Early Life and Education:
I was born on March 24, 1989, in Detroit, Michigan. My upbringing in this vibrant community instilled in me a strong sense of belonging and a desire to make a meaningful impact. As a student at L'Anse Creuse High School, I led as Senior Class President and was honored as the Wendy's High School Heisman recipient. My educational journey then took me to Michigan State University, where I earned triple Bachelor's degrees in Economics, Public Policy and Public Administration, and Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy from James Madison College. At MSU, I was deeply involved in student leadership, serving as Student Body President and Student Liaison to the MSU Board of Trustees. I also played for the MSU Men's Lacrosse Team. In 2012, I was instrumental in passing Public Act 125 in the Michigan Legislature, a significant achievement that garnered national attention and saved countless young lives in Michigan.
I am currently advancing my education with a Master's in Public Policy and Administration at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
Early Career:
My journey into public service began with the establishment of Campaign Finance Strategies LLC, a firm specializing in government relations and campaign finance consulting. This venture offered me a profound insight into the legislative process and sharpened my advocacy skills. In November 2014, my political career took a significant leap when I was elected to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. My leadership skills were quickly recognized, leading to my appointment as Chair of the Justice and Public Safety Committee and to various other key committees and councils. I have been a staunch advocate for transparency in campaign finance and have worked diligently to enhance career and vocational training opportunities for our community.
Legislative Career:
In January 2017, I embraced a new role as a State Representative for Michigan's 24th District. Re-elected for three terms, I quickly made a mark in Lansing, known for my dedication and bipartisan approach. My tenure on the Appropriations Committee and as Chair of the Commerce & Tourism Committee for two terms were highlights of my legislative career.
My focus has been on fostering economic growth and business attraction in Michigan, especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic. My efforts were pivotal in expanding healthcare through telehealth platforms and securing a substantial $5 billion investment for a major data center in the United States.
Awards & Honors:
My commitment to transparent and collaborative governance has been recognized with several awards, including the "Legislator of the Year" Award from the Small Business Association of Michigan in 2021.
Personal Life & Community Involvement:
Beyond my professional life, I have been deeply involved in my community. For over 15 years, I served as Co-Chair of the L'Anse Creuse Community Action Coalition. Presently, I am volunteering as an Assistant Coach for the Detroit Panthers Boy's Lacrosse Team.
